Modified Pectoralis Major Tendon Transfer for Reanimation of Elbow Flexion as a Salvage Procedure in Complete Brachial Plexus Injury: A Case Report

چکیده
UNLABELLED Traumatic brachial plexus injuries rarely recover spontaneously and if the window period for neurotisation has elapsed, the only option for restoration of function lies in a salvage procedure. Many such salvage procedures have been described in the literature with variable functional results. We report the case of a 16-year-old boy who presented after unsuccessful treatment for a complete brachial plexus injury; we performed a pectoralis major tendon transfer to attain elbow flexion. Postoperatively, the elbow was splinted with flexion at 100°. After 4 weeks of immobilization the splint was removed and the patient could actively flex his elbow from 30° to 100°. KEY WORDS brachial plexus injury, salvage procedure, pectoralis major tendon transfer.

Rhomboid nerve transfer to the suprascapular nerve for shoulder reanimation in brachial plexus palsy: A clinical report.
Recovery of shoulder function is a real challenge in cases of partial brachial plexus palsy. Currently, in C5-C6 root injuries, transfer of the long head of the triceps brachii branch is done to revive the deltoid muscle. Spinal accessory nerve transfer is typically used for reanimation of the suprascapular nerve. We propose an alternative technique in which the nerve of the rhomboid muscles is...
متن کاملTriceps to biceps transfer for restoration of elbow flexion following upper brachial plexus injury
INTRODUCTION Upper brachial plexus injury in adults causes loss of elbow fl exion; when the primary nerve surgery has failed or the patient seeks treatment after 12 months of injury and pedicled muscle transfers are required. Most commonly, the latissimus dorsi or the Steindler flexorplasty is used. MATERIAL AND METHODS We have transferred one of the heads of triceps muscle to restore the elb...

plexus injury. Few studies report the rate of revision surgeries following free functional muscle transfers. We examinedthe reoperation rate and indication for reoperation after primary reconstruction of upper extremity function with a freegracilis transfer after brachial plexus injury. Methods: From 2003-2016, we identified 25 patients who underwent a free functional gracilis ...
متن کاملSteindler flexorplasty to restore elbow flexion in C5-C6-C7 brachial plexus palsy type
BACKGROUND Loss of elbow flexion due to traumatic palsy of the brachial plexus represents a major functional handicap. Then, the first goal in the treatment of the flail arm is to restore the elbow flexion by primary direct nerve surgery or secondary reconstructive surgery. There are various methods to restore elbow flexion which are well documented in the medical literature but the most known a...

Abstract Background: Loss of active abduction and forward flexion of shoulder in brachial plexus injury (BPI) is a severe disability in daily life and employment. Several methods of tendon transfer, such as Saha, Hartman and Bateman procedure, have been described with a limited function. In this study, 4 cases treated with functioning free Gracilis muscle transplantation for BPI were reporte...
